The country of Rwanda
On this page you will find the five provinces of Rwanda and their beautiful places. The tourist attractions of Rwanda are visited by the AIESEC volunteers who documented their experience. The capital Kigali
Kigali is the capital of Rwanda and the largest city. Located near the geographical centre it is the ideal place to start to explore Rwanda. Kigali has a warm and pleasant climate most of the year. It is situated on a number of hills which means beyond every corner a beautiful view can await you. There is a wide variety of bars and restaurants with local as well as international menu's.

The western province
The western province borders Lake Kivu which acts as a natural border between Rwanda and DR Congo. The lake offers tourist attractions no other province of Rwanda has such as kayaking and visiting the beautiful islands located inside the lake. Next to the lake lies the famous Congo Nile trail which crosses the entire province from Gisenyi through Kibuye to Kemembe.

Lake Kivu - Kibuye
Lake Kivu is a lovely option to take easy while travelling between Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda's largest lake is the perfect spot for water sports, relaxing and beautiful sunsets.

The southern province
In the southern province of Rwanda one can find the Nyungwe National park. A national park which is known for its wide variety of monkey species and its famous canopy walk. Besides the beautiful nature and animal variety the local city of Huye also hosts the Ethnographic Museum of Rwanda.

A visit to one of the oldest rainforests in Africa is definitely a must! Nyungwe Forest National Park is Rwanda’s most important area of biodiversity.

Ethnographic Museum of Rwanda
Since the colonial era it is country’s most prominent intellectual town. The National University of Rwanda, the National Institute of Scientific and the outstanding National Museum are all part of the town.

The northern province
The northern province of Rwanda is inhibited by some world famous celebrities, namely the gorilla's. In the vulcanoes national park you are able to search for and meet with these impressive primates. Musanze town offers also a lot to visit such as the beautiful caves.

For those more daring, these caves are a great delight as you enter the pitch blackness with torches and find your way among the slippery muck to the other side.

The eastern province
The eastern province is the largest province Rwanda. The Akagera National park is located partly in this province. This park hosts four of the famous big five. Besides the national park the Rusumo waterfall is also a big attraction of the eastern province.

Perhaps Akagera is Rwanda’s best kept secret. A place where you enjoy magical views over savannah landscapes, swamps and lakes. A paradise for elephants, hippos, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, lions, wildebeest, leopards and even rhino’s!
